7th Grade Computer Science
Course Goals:
By the end of 7th grade, students will be able to
- apply one of several problem-solving methods
- troubleshoot and solve computer problems
- apply programs with concrete outcomes
- feel comfort and confidence in their use of computers
Course Content
Seventh grade computer science expands students' repertoire with technology and gives them more control over the computer. The focus of the semester is on solving computer problems using algorithmic thinking. Students will apply a variety of problem solving techniques as they complete several fun projects.
Solving computer problems
- Understanding taxonomy & creating a troubleshooting taxonomy
- Identifying the root of the problem
- Determining possible solutions
- Trying solutions/solving the problem
Web site design
- Design principles
- Designing & Creating a web site
- Macromedia Dreamweaver
Robotics
- What is a robot?
- Building the robot
- Programming the robot
- This unit will involve significant cross-curricular activity with Engineering class.

Michelle worked as a system administrator at Indiana University and GMS before transitioning into teaching computer science in 2001. She chairs the Equity committee and is Vice President of the board of the Computer Science Teachers Association.
