Special Programs
Everything we do at GMS is special, but a few of our programs are unique. Learn more about opportunities not available at other schools:
| Entrepreneurial Program |
Our Entrepreneurial Program has been heralded as an innovative approach to introducing basic concepts of business to middle-school girls. Learn more>> |
| Computer Science |
Our computer science program is based on the Computer Science Teachers' Association's Level 2 curriculum, co-authored by GMS teacher Michelle Hutton. Although Level 2 is intended for early high school, GMS addresses the lack of availability in area high schools by preparing girls in middle school.
In the words of one student, "I've learned not to be afraid of computers. I've learned that learning computer science is a process where you need to learn one thing before you move onto the next. Once you have mastered a concept, creating something you're proud of can be easy and fun." |
| Intersession |
Intersession consists of week-long half- or full-day courses in which students have the opportunity to experience life outside the classroom. Students get to choose their courses from a wide selection of topics. Past courses have included forensic science, learning to fly, kitchen science, and All About Chocolate. Small groups of students delve deeply into the chosen topic before returning to their regular classes refreshed. |
| Social and emotional learning. |
This weekly class provides an atmosphere of trust within the community of girls in which they can learn and practice essential life skills.
