GMS Grads at Eastside Prep
How do girls fare after they leave GMS? To answer that question, Margaret Scott, then our Head of School, visited Eastside College Preparatory School in 2002 to visit sophomores and GMS graduates Joanna Leon, Mayra Contreras and Judith Curiel. In a word, they are busy! All three are taking a full range of college prep courses, including U.S. History, Chemistry, English, Algebra II, and AP Spanish.
Long hours are the rule at Eastside, where the school day lasts from 8a.m. to 5 p.m. But the girls like the personal touches: If they get hungry, they can always stop by principal Chris Bischoff's refrigerator for a snack. The three made their presence felt last year when they joined the newspaper and yearbook staffs. Their newspaper won numerous awards. The girls are also in the process of starting a girls' soccer team for the spring and already have their coach lined up! Although high school is a much different experience than middle school, GMS and Eastside share one attribute in the minds of these three: It's their second family.
