Skateboarding isn’t only for boys! At GMS, the sport of skateboarding is growing by leaps and bounds. Girls have numerous opportunities to skateboard via the skate elective, skate unit in PE, and the Friday after-school program. Each skater is only guaranteed 2 practice runs but is encouraged to come practice prior to the event due to the ramps complex set up.

Each skater will get two, one minute, runs. The best score from the two runs will be used.

Depending on turn out and time we may include finals.

Skaters are judged on 3 main criteria: Speed, Use of ramp and Difficulty of maneuvers. Other factors such as style, creativity and courage often affect final score.

Each school providing 3 or more skaters may submit one judge.

Judges will score from 1 to 10. As long as judges stay consistent, the judging works. Even if a judge is clueless to skating, it still works.  Judges do not need prior judging experience.

No one is permitted to ride the ramp unless they are granted permission from GMS, are a student in 8th grade or below. All skaters must wear a helmet and knee and elbow pads. Pads are available if you do not have any but please bring your own if you do.
