Spring Intersession will happen March 30-April 3, 2009
Intersession
Intersession happens during a week in the fall and a week in the spring. While one grade goes on a trip, the remaining two grades stay at GMS and experience variety of extra-curricular learning opportunities. Teachers, parents, and other volunteers teach one-week mini courses in areas they are passionate about. Past intersession courses have included "Learning to Fly", "Crime Scene Investigations", Knitting, Programming with Alice, and Kitchen Science.
Fall Intersession 2008
Volunteers ignited the spark of knowledge and self-discovery during Fall Intersession 2008, resulting in a magical week for students. The girls had the opportunity to try activities such as: middle-eastern belly dancing, critiquing and making films, discussing and helping to design online games, designing and painting the GMS mural, working on the GMS play structure, hanging ten, learning about the origins of chocolate and the many forms of resisting dyeing. A cordial thank you to all who have and continue to support Intersession at GMS!
In addition to the many 6th and 7th grade parents who were involved in Fall Intersession 2008, we also had eighth grade parents who helped while their daughters were off in Mexico, and even Alumnae parents embrace the GMS Intersession experience! Classes included:
Surfing
All About Chocolate
Quilting
Stories in Pictures: The History and Evolution of Cartoons, Comics, and Graphic Novels
Spring intersession 2008 found a room full of girls investigating stop action animation with clay, drawing, and their own bodies. Here is a sample of what they created:
"Intersession is a great opportunity for students to learn skills and topics not covered in regular classes" - Instructor
