Advisory
The GMS Advisory Program places an emphasis on supporting students academically, socially, and emotionally through three years of middle school. Girls meet weekly in small groups, composed of an adult advisor and a mixture of students from sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. Advisors and students explore topics such as community, tolerance, and respect, and important upcoming school events are planned and discussed. In addition, advisory groups participate in a number of team-building activities throughout the year. Each girl's advisor also acts as her advocate, offering advice and support, and communicates purposefully with her teachers and parents. Advisors facilitate parent conferences each fall and help their advisees prepare for student-led conferences each spring. With the help of their advisors, girls are encouraged to become effective self-advocates and to develop important skills and confidence related to their own growth and well-being at GMS.
