Take a stroll down memory lane, make connections within the GMS network, and immerse yourself in the timeless fun and traditions of GMS! Join us as we commemorate the 25th Anniversary of GMS, shining a spotlight on our remarkable history, pivotal milestones, and enduring legacy from 1998 to 2023.


Let’s come together to celebrate our accomplishments and underscore the significance of progressive education while fostering a bright and dynamic future characterized by continuous growth!

In 1998, a new vision for girls' education formed right here in the Bay Area. The Girls' Middle School launched its Pioneer Class, which consisted of 35 6th grade girls and a mighty staff of 13. Since that founding year, we've graduated 1,201 students, preparing them to be the resilient, compassionate people our world needs. 
1998 GMS opens its doors at St. Athanasius Church in Mountain View. 

2001 The Pioneer Class graduates! 

2008 We earn the California Association of Independent Schools Accreditation and join the West Bay Athletic League.

2011 The big move to our current home at 3400 W. Bayshore Rd., Palo Alto and we doubled the size of each class.

2013 Attorney General Kamala Harris visits as the 2013 Bennett Scholars Breakfast Keynote Speaker. 

2015 The Wizard of Oz debuts as GMS's first musical production.

2019 We earn Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Accreditation.

2020 GMS goes virtual due to COVID-19.

2021 Christine Fairless is appointed Head of School.

2022 The Fantastic 6 cements a place in GMS history at the State Robotics Competition.

2023 We celebrate our 25th Anniversary!
