SPOTLIGHT ON ALUMS - WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

Natasha Yen '17

“My time at GMS has played an important role in developing my self-confidence and sense of social responsibility. GMS's pedagogy of empowerment extended beyond the classroom, fostering a love of learning through both academics and hands-on application. The confidence I gained at GMS continued to guide me in my following pursuits. After GMS, I led environmental, diversity, and advocacy initiatives in high school and discovered a passion for community empowerment through resource-sharing and mentorship roles in college. In my current community development work, I continue to draw on those early lessons from GMS, striving to create spaces where others can feel just as supported and empowered to grow.”

"My time at GMS played a big part in the person I am today. GMS was the first place I felt comfortable being myself and felt truly accepted by my peers and teachers. One of my first big stage roles was Lady Macbeth in the 8th-grade Shakespeare play! Also, I chose "Singing Show Tunes" as my 8th-grade Personal Odyssey project, which gave me an opportunity to build confidence in singing in front of an audience. My three years at GMS helped me to build a foundation for my own educational and personal journey, and for that, I am so grateful."

"GMS was the most 'homey' place that you can be at, which is one of the best gifts you can give to yourself during the sensitive and intense years of middle school!"
