Teacher Interns

Summer 2021 - We are still working out the details of the 2021 Summer Experience. Please check back here by May 1 for more information.

What is the Teacher Intern program?

The GMS Summer Experience Teaching Intern program is open to GMS alums who have graduated from high school and have completed at least one year of college or have equivalent experience.

GMS Summer Experience Teaching Interns design and teach student-centered, hands-on lessons that foster creative thinking, problem solving, and critical thinking. Gain experience working with rising fifth to eighth graders in an innovative and fast-paced summer camp environment. Each intern will have the support and guidance of a GMS teacher mentor and the assistance of a GMS teaching intern.

What will I be doing?

Every GMS Summer Experience Teaching Intern selects two subject areas. The teaching intern will be responsible for designing and teaching an hour long course. These lessons will incorporate computer science, arts, creative writing, science, engineering, or physical wellness. We encourage teaching interns to design lessons and projects about which they are passionate, and also embrace the idea of STE(A)M with a hands-on exploratory approach.

What does a typical day look like?

The typical day is 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You will have time during the day to prepare and organize materials for upcoming lessons with the support of experienced GMS teachers. Additionally, it wouldn’t be camp without silly camp games and engaging with students during their breaks and lunches. We count on you to be a leader both in and outside of the classroom.

Will I be compensated?

Yes, teacher interns are paid at a rate of $15 per hour.

How can I apply?

The application is in three parts: Teacher/Professor Recommendation, Online application, phone interview.
