Students experience a balance between structure and freedom in our ceramics program. With an emphasis on studio production, this course is designed to develop higher-level thinking, art criticism, and aesthetics. Students begin with raw material and move from construction to firing to glazing and to the final firing. They learn the science behind each step and how transformation of matter combined with creativity come together to make art.
- Students utilize hand-building, sculpting, and a variety of decorative techniques. They create multi-pieced forms, and employ realism, fantasy, joy, humor, and satire in the creative process.
- Students explore processes and techniques as well as develop sufficient skill and confidence.
- Students conceive and create works of visual art that demonstrate an understanding of how the communication of their ideas relates to the medium, processes, and techniques.
