Athletics & Physical Education

GMS values and teaches the importance of being and staying healthy. Our athletics program and physical education curriculum give girls the opportunity to build skills and play sports in a supportive environment. We want to create lifelong athletes. Throughout their three years, students participate in fitness activities, learn the skills and rules of traditional sports, and explore movement through nontraditional activities like African dance, self-defense with Impact Bay Area, and skateboarding.

The school offers a comprehensive afterschool athletics program, including softball, cross-country, swimming, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and tennis. The West Bay Athletic League also sponsors one-time athletic events like track and field meets and golf tournaments. Our school has hosted the GMS Annual Skate Contest for more than ten years; we are proud to have the only all-girls skateboarding program and contest in the world.

GMS is committed to inclusion and participation in all athletics programs. Any student, regardless of ability or experience, may play on the athletic teams. To accommodate the range of skills and abilities, we organize different levels of teams for all sports, including Varsity and Junior Varsity. At GMS, girls are encouraged to learn and play in a positive, encouraging, and fun atmosphere.
