Experience the Magic of GMS this Summer!

GMS Summer Camps offer a dynamic and supportive space where girls can explore their strengths, express their voices, and engage in hands-on, interdisciplinary learning. Designed and led by GMS faculty and alumni, our full-day camps run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and immerse students in the spirit of GMS through engineering challenges, performing arts, scientific inquiry, and creative thinking. Some camps combine multiple disciplines, providing an even richer experience of discovery and creativity. Join us for some exploration, innovation, and fun this summer!

Time Travel 101 and GMS Robotics Summer Camp

Time Travel 101 & Robotics

Session 1: June 16 - 20
This one-week combined camp is being offered to students from rising 6th graders to rising 8th graders.

Time Travel 101
Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Blending science and the humanities, this camp invites students to uncover the fascinating science and theories behind time travel, including concepts like wormholes, relativity, and paradoxes. They’ll explore captivating stories of past and future worlds through literature and film, analyzing how different eras have imagined time travel and its consequences. Students will examine how time travel shapes storytelling and reflects cultural values. By the end, they’ll channel their creativity to craft their own imaginative choose-your-own-adventure time-travel story, combining scientific ideas with compelling narratives to design a story that brings a unique twist to the timeless question: “What if?”

Robotics
Time: 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Are you interested in robotics but don't know how to get started? Come and learn how to build and code a Vex claw bot! This summer camp is taught by GMS alums who got their start during middle school robotics. This summer camp will support rising 6th through 8th grade students jumpstart their robotics foundations! Over the course of the week, you will become familiar with the standard tools and parts, collaborate in teams, and get hands-on experience tinkering with the VEX V5 systems.

This two-weeks combined camp is being offered to students from rising 6th graders to rising 8th graders.

BioDetectives: Rescuing the Wonders of Life!

Time: 9:00am - 12:00 pm

Ready for a mysterious crash course in Biology where we explore the wonders of life, from tiny viruses to the majestic Blue whale? Investigate biological phenomena and uncover mysteries that had scientists stumped for years! Discover the importance of ecology and how it connects to YOU and our planet!

Uncover the secrets of diseases: what causes them, how scientists fight them, and even peek inside the tools they use. Explore genetics and proteins through cool websites like RCSB PDB and Pigeonetics. This camp is your chance to dive in and discover biology in a low-stress, high-fun environment. No textbooks, no tests, just exciting discoveries waiting for you!

Writing Space: World Building through the Study of Architecture
Time: 12:00 pm- 3:00 pm
This camp is offered to students from rising 6th graders - 8th graders. What if a place, rather than a person, was the main character? In this writing class, we'll explore how spaces shape experiences and meaning. Through fiction, non-fiction, and visual analysis, we'll examine how living and non-living things connect to places and why spaces are never neutral.

Our field trips around the Bay Area will inspire world-building, and we'll use photography and sensory observation to "study" spaces. Alongside reading and analyzing texts on architecture and space, we'll refine our "show, not tell" skills. By the end, we'll create a collective magazine showcasing our work.
