Emily Laiterman had a fear of public speaking until she gave her pitch to investors at Entrepreneurial Night. In that pivotal seventh grade moment, Emily could not have foreseen that eventually she would lead workshops on public speaking and presentation skills. Emily graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a BS in Computer Science and a minor in Linguistics.
Teaching it the "most rewarding experience ever!" declares Vanessa Ibarra. After earning her BA in Psychology and Early Childhood Education from Mount Holyoke College, Vanessa began her career at Bing Nursery School in Palo Alto. Back in 2004, her advisor, Holly Zuklie, described the eight grade Vanessa as "a terrific role model for younger students and a wonderfully caring friend."
Julia Shapiro is the guitarist, singer, songwriter, and occasional drummer in two bands. Although a true rocker - she even played at the 2015 and 2017 South by Southwest Music Festival - Julia earned a Psychology degree from Whitman College with a minor in Art. She remembers having the freedom to be herself at GMS.
There is a rich, collegial work environment at GMS. Just as we value each individual student within our community, we also value each individual teacher teaching to their passion, with the autonomy and opportunity to create curriculum and learning experiences that support the common goals of each department, grade level, and the school as a whole.
